Workshops

Workshop Guidelines:

  • Workshop locations will be held at Country Stitches, 1965 Boardman Rd. Jackson, MI, at Christoff’s Toy House Room, 400 N. Mechanic St, Jackson, MI or The Coop 2665 W. Bellevue Rd. Leslie, MI 49251.  See individual descriptions for specific location information. Lunch is on your own.  There is a refrigerator and microwave available if you want to bring a sack lunch.
  • Workshops are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and usually limited to 20-25 students depending on the speaker’s requirements. A waiting list is kept for workshops that are filled.
  • Supply lists will be available at the time of sign-up for the workshop.
  • Full day workshops begin at 10  a.m. and end by 4 p.m. Half day workshops are normally from 10 a.m. until noon or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Participants need to arrive for class 30 minutes prior to the starting time.
  • Workshops include a 30-45 minute lunch break. Workshop participants may bring a sack lunch or plan accordingly.

Payment and Enrollment:

  • Full day workshops cost $40.00 for guild members and $45 for non-members. Half day workshops cost $25.00 for guild members and $30 for non-members.
  • Payment is required at the time of registration and is nonrefundable.
  • Registration forms are available on the website and from the Program chairperson.
  • Payment is by cash or check made out to Pieces and Patches Quilt Guild of Jackson.
  • The Program Committee requires a separate check for each month’s workshop(s).

Workshop Cancellations:

In case of an emergency, workshop participants are responsible for transferring their workshop registration to other guild members. To facilitate this, one should contact the program chairperson to acquire names from a potential waiting list.

Supply List

*3 half yards light, medium & dark fabric (1 1/2 yds total)
*10-20 scrap pieces at least 4 1/2 inches in size
*Your normal sewing equipment – Machine, thread, rotary cutter etc…
*Creative grid hexagon ruler (not required if you want to use the AccuQuilt machine @ The Coop to cut your hexagons)
*Please bring your own lunch and beverage.

Lynn Harris will present tips and tricks that make working with small pieces of fabric easier.  Lynn will show us how to piece tiny stars, baskets, and other small blocks.  With Lynn’s tips for working small you will be able to add a bit of tiny sparkle to your own quilt designs or make your own quilt completely from tiny blocks.  These precision  pieced blocks can also be used in smaller projects such as a pincushion or pouch.

There is a $5/kit fee for this workshop. This fee is payable to the instructor and
includes the handouts and fabrics for the workshop. Do you have problems with wonky blocks, mismatched seams, or you’re just not happy with your piecing skills?
 
Well, this is the workshop for you. Vernita will give you tips and tricks to assist you to achieve successful techniques for cutting, pressing, and sewing precise blocks. The only supplies you need to bring with you are: sewing machine, rotary cutter & small mat, sewing tools (rulers, iron, mat, etc.) and any questions you may have. Spend the day getting to know your machine, playing with fabric, and sewing to create blocks to become a more accurate piecer along the way. Let’s see if we can all increase our love of quilting with precision piecing.
 
P.S. there will be chocolate involved.

American Beauty with Nancy Roelfsema

In March Nancy Roelfsema will be doing a trunk
show entitled “Why We Quilt.” She will also be
doing a workshop on paper piecing The New
York Beauty block. This is her most popular quilting class every student leaves satisfied with their results. You will learn Nancy’s unique paper piecing technique to get super sharp points for your block. You will also learn
piecing curves to finish the blocks. During the class you should be able to finish 24 blocks. Nancy has a YouTube channel, OnPointTV and Quilting with Nancy, which has 56,000 subscribers at this time and a lot of great videos and interesting projects. Check it out!
